Lake Conroe Summer Vacation - Part 3

Wednesday of our vacation was a very dreary day.  The weather forecast for the week was 60-90% chance of rain; the radar showed the storms spanning San Antonio to Lufkin to Galveston.  The lake storms' enchantment had worn off and I was getting stir-crazy.  We decided to make the most of our day by taking the girls roller skating and to see the movie, Brave.

We headed to the roller rink near downtown Conroe.  We got out of the truck just as a bus of summer daycare kids showed up.  A wave of orange shirts began descending from the bus steps.  I wanted to beat them inside so I wouldn't have to wait in the long line that would soon form.  I deserted my family and made a mad-dash to the front door.  Ha!  I beat them!  I felt victorious, and this race, unbeknownst to anyone but myself, was a highlight of my day.  It's the little things, ya know.  :)

I was glad to see that they had "Skate Mates" available at
this skating rink.  These are basically PVC pipes and wheels constructed together so that a beginner skater can use it as a training device.  With Arden being only three, and having skated just a handful of times, I appreciate these devices.  They make it easier for her to skate and I don't have to worry about holding her hand constantly.
Arden with her Skate Mate.  I thought it was fitting that she wore a rainbow shirt since we were at Rainbow Roller Rink.  And you can see a few orange shirts in the background :)
After Arden skated with the trainer for awhile, she decided that she was going to push it aside and skate on her own!!!  She always amazes me with her coordination and athletic ability.  This time was no exception.  I was so proud of her.

Thursday lunch was spent at the April Sound Country Club.  April Sound is a golf course community near the water, and is where Mike and Christy live.  Their house is less than ten minutes from the lakehouse, so we were able to hang out with them a few times during the week.  They treated us to a nice meal at the country club's restaurant.  We also had dinner with them at the lakehouse the Tuesday before.  Brian grilled some burgers on Mike's Traeger Grill.  Brian really enjoys cooking and grilling, so I got out of his way while he did his thing.  We both have dominant personalities, so it's best that we not try to share the kitchen.  :)  The burgers were fantastic.  We all had a nice time hanging out that evening.

The rain was subsiding in the Lake Conroe region on Thursday, but Houston was getting downpours and flash floods.  We received a call that morning from the neighbor that shares our back fence.  She called to let us know that the severe weather caused her oak tree to uproot and fall on our back fence!  It damaged about ten feet of fence and ruined the girls' trampoline.  Several of our friends and family stopped by our house and snapped a few pics for us for insurance purposes.
One of the pictures sent to us via text.  Yikes!  Not exactly what I wanted to come home to.
Thankfully the neighbor's insurance company was quick to survey the damage and reimburse us for the trampoline.  We now have a new fence that Arden calls the "orange fence" because the new boards looks orange compared to the adjacent old, grayish ones.
