Service Jar- Week 2

"Let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."  Matthew 5:16

This last week our little strip of paper suggested that we make cards for those who had assisted living.  Since it was the week of Independence Day, we decided to make 4th of July cards.  Cole, Gracie, Jakob, and Myleigh joined us this week.  The kids took all kinds of paper, stickers, markers, and glitter glue (oh Arden and the glitter glue!) and made cards.  They all puts lots of effort into their cards.  We also made small American flags to pass out.

We then headed to a local nursing home.  This particular nursing home is a part of the assisted living place where Brian's grandfather once stayed.  The kids were shy at first, and didn't want to approach any of the residents.  I think they were a little intimidated by the oxygen tanks, wheelchairs, and the general disposition of the people.  By the time we left, though, they were eager to knock on a door and hand over a card.  With the cards, they wished them a happy fourth of July.

The residents were so delighted to see young, smiling children.  It was sweet to see the scene unfold.  Some men told of their days in the military and a particular woman named Thelma asked for prayers for her ailments.  It was marvelous to see her faith in spite of her sickness.
